On Friday February 7 at about 4:52 PM, the Kennett (Station 24), Longwood, Avondale (Station 23) and Hockessin (DE Station 19) Fire Companies were dispatched to Scarlett Road near West South Street for a reported house fire. The Chester County Radio Room reported receiving several calls from witnesses stating there was fire through the roof of a house in the 100 block of Scarlett Road. Chief 24 arrived first and reported fire showing from the 3rd floor and roof of a 3 1/2 story business and established Scarlett Road Command. Chief 23 arrived and assumed the Scarlett Road Command Post.

Engine 24-2 arrived first and laid a 5 inch supply line from the corner of Scarlett Road and West South Street into the scene. Their crew split with one crew stretching an 1 3/4" line to the back of the building and an 1 3/4" line to the front door. Ladder 25 (B.McCarthy) arrived and split their crew, sending two members inside to conduct a primary search for occupants while the other members set up ladders and the aerial ladder outside the building. Engine 23-2 arrived and started drafting water out of the creek on South Street. They connected to the supply line that Engine 24-2 dropped and supplied them with water. Tankers 24 and 23 arrived and sent additional water to the scene.

Engine 25-1 arrived and their crew entered the building to assist with fire suppression. Ladder 25 and Engine 25-1's crew worked together to pull down ceilings and extinguish remaining areas of fire while Engine 24-2's crew continued knocking down the main fire room. An 1 3/4" was stretched up the main ladder on Ladder 25 and used to put out several hotspots that the interior crews couldn't reach. The fire was placed under control at 5:24 PM but all crews spent the next several hours performing overhaul to insure the fire was out.
