Traditions Training Truck Company Operations Class

The volunteer members of the company have attended numerous training classes in the past two months. In the beginning of December 2009 the company hosted a Rapid Intervention Team and Firefighter Survival class. These 16 hour classes are designed to provide the firefighter with the necessary skills to effect a rescue of a firefighter in distress. The course was administered by the Chester County Fire Academy. Instructors Jeff Kramer, Chris Obenchain, Dave McCormick and Win Slauch spent numerous hours training the members to numerous tactics to rescue firefighters in a variety of hands on scenarios. These scenarios included a SCBA confidence maze, the Denver drill and numerous collapse and entrapment incidents.
On Jan 16th and 17th the company was pleased to have Traditions Training instruct another high intensity, real world experience based truck company operations class. This class consisted of 4 hours of lecture followed by 16hrs of rigorous hands on evolutions. The truck company class taught our members the basic functions of the truck company, the two team truck concept as well as many street proven tactics to overcome a variety of obstacles routinely experience by the truck company. The instructors consisted of career firefighters from the District of Columbia F.D., Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and the Fire Department of New York.
Despite the heavy rain on Sunday, the members as well as members from Union Fire Co #1 of Oxford, Kennett Fire Co #1, West Grove Fire Co, Po-Mar-Lin Fire Co and Concordville Fire and Protection Assoc, participated in real time box alarm drills. These drills concluded with simulated responses incorporating the many new tactics learned over the course of the weekend.
The Officers and Members of Longwood Fire Company would like to that Nick Martin, Dan Doyle, Jim Ellis and Mike Strothers from Traditions Training for passing along their knowledge in street proven tactics.
Pictures and Videos will be posted in the media section shortly.
