Boat 25 gets wet

March 2, 2008

Story by: AJ McCarthy, Captain 25

The members of the water rescue team gathered at the firehouse for an inservice training on our Zodiac rescue motor and Mercury motor. Assistant Chief Engineer Time Moore and Firefighter Robert Polen taught the members on the start up and set up procedures for the motor as well as operational and safety considerations on the boat. After the 2 hour classroom session, the crews assembled on Rescue 25 and Brush/Boat 25 and headed to Longwood Gardens Nursery Pond for hands on application. All the members logged in time both operating the boat as well as riding in the crew position. Longwood Fire Company is in the process of placing the water rescue team into service. This operation will provide a desperately needed service in our first due as we respond to numerous water related emergencies during inclement weather. The LFC members will continue over the next few months to train on water rescue emergencies so we can provide the best service possible to our residents.
