members attended the Flash over Simulator at the Delaware
County Fire Training Center. The crews assembled at the Firehouse
at 0630hrs and proceeded to the training center. Once at the
training center, Instructors Sean Joyce and Gary Plotts taught
the classroom session of the class, describing the rules for
using the simulator as well as the fire theory behind flash
overs. Once the classroom session was complete, the firemen
donned the gear and airpaks and participated in 3 hours of
live fire training. Once in the simulator, crews were taught
the warnings signs of flash over and how to effectively apply
water to eliminate the threat of a flash over. A good time
was had by all and we would like to thank Instructors Plotts
and Joyce. The importance of this training was to teach all
of our members how dangerous flash overs can be and to recognize
the signs that could put us in harms way. A special thanks
to Union Fire Co and the crew of Engine 21-2 for covering
our first due while we attended the training.
