On Saturday afternoon, July 2, Longwood Fire Company was dispatched to assist the Concordville Fire and Protective Association (station 59) for a reported building fire. LFC personnel were at the station cleaning up from a previous brush fire and staffed Ladder 25 for the quick response. Additional radio reports mentioned a fully-involved garage fire with extension into the attached residence.

Chief 59 arrived on scene and confirmed this report, followed closely by Ladder 25. Ladder 25 backed in the driveway and crews pulled a 2.5" hoseline. Ladder 25 carries 400 gallons of water and this was used to protect the neighboring house which was beginning to catch fire, and lessen the intensity of the fire. Because of the remote location of the incident, tankers were needed to truck in an adequate supply of water needed to extinguish the fire.

While waiting for this water supply to be established, Longwood crews teamed up with Assistant 59 and additional personnel who arrived on Utility 25. Crews were able to force entry into the front door and conduct a primary search of the residence. The family's dog was located and safely removed from the heat and smoke. Crews also stretched another hoseline into the residence which was later used to stop the spread of fire into the home, cut a hole in the roof to vent heated smoke and gases, and placed ground ladders on the exterior of the structure. Soon after a reliable water supply was established the fire was placed under control.
