For the third time this weekend, the Longwood Fire Company was dispatched to another working house fire. Longwood, Kennett (Station 24), Hockessin (DE Station 19), Goodwill (Station 52 - RIT) and Po-Mar-Lin Fire (Station 36) Companies were dispatched to the 100 block of Hickory Hill Road for a reported dwelling fire. Chief 25 arrived to find a 2.5 story structure with fire showing from the B side of the dwelling. Engine 25-1 arrived, laid a 5 inch supply line and forced their way into the structure; quickly extending an 1 3/4 line to the attic. Once there, crews discovered a working fire around the chimney flue that burned through the side of the house. They quickly extinguished the fire while Ladder 25 backed into the ice covered driveway and deployed the main ladder to the chimney area of the house. The Goodwill handled the RIT assignment while all remaining units sent their manpower to the scene to assist with overhaul. Crews operated on scene for just over two hours.
