E-25-2, Rescue 24 and a police officer from the Kennett Square Borough Police Department arrived simultaneously at 0955hrs to find a vehicle in the west branch of the Red Clay Creek. The vehicle had water up to the windows and sinking into a deeper portion of the creek.

The vehicle became submerged during the rescue, Sgt Fuller, Captain Jack Melton and Ptlm. Longwood and Kennett crews deployed hazardous materials booms to contain the leaking fluid downstream. The PA DEP was notified of the small amount of motor vehicle fluids in a public waterway.

Crews then assisted Blittersdorf Towing with removing the vehicle from the creek.

Avondale Ambulance 23-1 was requested to monitor the personnel who entered the freezing water for signs of hypothermia. Fortunately, no personnel required transport for further treatment.
