| At 0800hrs LFC members loaded up on the Rescue-Engine and Rescue Squad and made the short journey to Unionville. A few weeks earlier Chief Wells of the Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company invited us to take part in an airbag training class being taught by John Sheperak of Guardian Fire Equipment. Po-Mar-Lin had purchased new Hurst air bags and was taking a refresher course. Since both of our companies work very closely and we utilize a different type of air bag, Chief Wells thought it would benefit both companies to become more familiar with each others equipment. Instructor Sheperak has an extensive rescue background and is a state rescue instructor for numerous counties in PA. Crews participated in 1.5hrs of classroom lecture involving the theory of the air bag and its intended purpose as well as overall stabilization on rescue incidents. After a brief break, both crews divided into two teams and set forth to accomplish the given task, lift a 6ft table approx 16 inches off the ground. While this sounds simple, the table contained a cup of water filled to the top. The goal was to spill as little water as possible. Each team had to use the same tactics we would deploy on a real rescue incident. This would include the incident command structure, wood cribbing and safety equipment. After each team successfully raised their respective table 16inches, the groups switched tables and had to lower the table in the same manner. After approx 2 hours the groups completed the exercise and broke for lunch. During the lunch break LFC units were dispatched to a gas leak on Lenape Rd and Po-Mar-Lin to a residential fire alarm in Newlin Twp. Thanks to Chief Wells and the members of Po-Mar-Lin Fire Co to their hospitality. We look forward to more joint training in the near future. |
