On July 20th four members from the Longwood Fire Company traveled to Baltimore, Maryland to attend Firehouse Expo, a conference consisting of more than 120 seminars and classes spread out over four days. The four participated in valuable hands on training on Wednesday consisting of Firefighter survival and Forcible Entry. Although the day was pushing 100 degrees, each member participated with enthusiasm and determination to complete the tasks assigned to us. Thursday, Friday and Saturday consisted of class room seminars aimed at building confidence as firefighters and officers. Each member was able to participate in a total of 9, one and a half hour sessions over the three days including; Developing Exceptional Fire Officers; Fire Dynamics for Firefighters; Leading the Volunteers; Aerial Ladder & Tower Ladder Placement and Operation; and Effective Search Operation - Private Dwellings, to name a few. In the end each individual was able to learn and bring back to our station valuable skills, tactics, and tips to pass on to other firefighters in the company. We would like to thank the Longwood Fire Company for giving us this opportunity to advance our knowledge, and better serve our community.
