Mid-day storms rolled through the Chester and New Castle County areas on Tuesday, August 9th and both fireboards were flooded with calls for alarms, lightning strikes, wires down, and many more. The Longwood Fire Company received three alarms in a short period of time, one of them being to assist the Hockessin Fire Company (New Castle County station 19) for a reported lightning strike of a residence with smoke in the building.

Ladder 25 and Engine 25-1 made the response. The incident commander confirmed the report of a chimney struck by lightning with a smoke condition on the upper floors. The first arriving crews went to work on the interior, extinguishing hot spots left by the lightning strike. Longwood crews assisted with ventilating the residence with the use of fans and also checked the exterior of the chimney for any hot spots. The fire was soon placed under control and all units were available.

Units: Ladder 25, Engine 25-1, New Castle County stations 19 and 25
