| In the late afternoon the first alarm assignment was dispatched to the 600blk of S. Union St in Kennett Square Borough for the building fire. Deputy 24 (Mitchell) responded and was advised that the roof was on fire above the mexican grocery store. E-25-1 (LaBare) responded shortly after dispatch with 4. Deputy 24 arrived with an active electrical issue inside the building and instructed the first due engine to enter the beauty salon and check the electrical service. The second due engine was assigned to check the roof mounted HVAC units. Deputy 24 established Union St Command. E-25-1 arrived first and positioned at the top of the parking lot, leaving room for the responding truck company. The engine crew entered the beauty salon and discovered an active electrical arc among the fluorescent lights. The engine driver threw both portable ladders to the roof. E-24-1 arrived with Ladder 25 and both crews ascended the portable ladders and aerial ladder to investigate multiple roof top units. While units were attempting to secure power to the entire strip of buildings, Station 24 was dispatched to an accident involving a school bus. Deputy 24 transferred command to Asst. 25 (McCarthy). Rescue 25 was alerted to respond to the second call but was cancelled before responding. Units determined that the entire service to the complex was overloaded and secured the power to the entire block of buildings. Command placed the incident under control and turned over the scene to the property owner. |
