At 1419hrs the Company was alerted for a motor vehicle crash involving an East Penn Railroad freight train on Rt. 1 at the Brandywine River.

Chief 25(A. McCarthy) responded and was advised that a vehicle traveling southbound on Rt. 1 failed to yield to a freight train in the crossing and struck the locomotive.

Chief 25 arrived to find a vehicle at rest on top of a guardrail and the freight train blocking all lanes of Rt. 1. Rescue 25 and Delco Rescue 59 (Concordville) arrived and secure the vehicle to the guardrail to prevent the vehicle from failing into the Brandywine River. Crews worked to secure the fluids leaking from the vehicle.

25 EMS crews evaluated both occupants and fortunately they didn't require any medical attention.

We would like to remind our residents that you are required to stop at all railroad crossings when the signals are flashing red. Please pay attention while driving as well. This incident could have had a more serious outcome given the circumstances.

Units: Rescue 25, E-25-2, Micu 25-2, Medic 25, Traffic 25 and Chief 25
