At 0800hrs the first alarm assignment was dispatched to 548 Rosedale Rd, Fertile Soil, for the factory fire. Longwood was due for the full company assist to Station 24 (Kennett). Also on the card was Avondale Fire Co for the 3 piece engine company.

Deputy 24 (Mitchell) arrived at 0802hrs with smoke showing from the roof requesting Working Fire Dispatch which brought Tanker 23, Tanker 36 (Po-Mar-Lin) and an engine and tanker from NCC 19 (Hockessin). Deputy 24 established Fertile Soil Command and appointed Chief 25 (Ruoss) as the Operations Officer.

E-24-1 arrived first and dropped a 5" supply line. E-25-1 arrived next and was assigned to check for extension to the exposure building. Ladder 25 arrived and threw portable ladders. E-24-1 ran a line and extinguished a fire involving the soil dryer and the roof. E-25-2 arrived and placed in staging. Rescue 25 was cancelled enroute.

Crews had to mitigate approx 1 foot of fresh mud to make access to the building which resulted in very dirty apparatus.

We would like to thank Deputy 24 and Krapf's Bus Company for allowing us to use their facility to clean the apparatus.

Thanks to E-51-2 (1st West Chester) for covering the first due.
