On 07-27-08 at 1957hrs, Longwood units were alerted to assist Station 24, Kennett #1, on a house fire in Bayard Estates. E-25-1, Ladder 25, and Micu 25-2 responded 5 minutes after dispatch. Chief 24(Melton) arrived on the scene with light smoke showing from the second floor, side A of the house. E-25-1 arrived and was advised to standby at the hydrant on Forest Dr in the event a supply line would need to be established. Ladder 25 arrived and backed into the driveway, preparing to raise the aerial to the roof on side A. E-25-1 and Ladder 25 crews threw ground ladders on side A and began to expose the hidden fire located in the exterior wall as Kennett crews and Asst. 25 began to pull the second floor ceilings to access the fire in the attic. Deputy 25 was appointed as the manpower officer. This position assigns the available manpower to tasks given by the command officer. Chief 25 established "Blue Spruce C.P." to assist Chief 24 with communications to Fireboard. The crews contained the hidden fire to the attic and exterior wall. Longwood crews assisted Kennett in placing equipment in service and were released from the scene at 2138hrs. The fire appears to be the result of a lightning strike.

Special thanks to Concordville 59-3 for covering our local during the incident.
