At 2111 hours, Longwood Fire Company, along with Station 36 (Po-Mar-Lin) and Station 24 (Kennett) were alerted for a possible house fire with smoke coming from the attic in the 600 block of West Creek Road.

Deputy 25 arrived on location with smoke showing from the roof of a 2 story split occupancy dwelling. Chief 25 arrived on scene and assumed West Creek Road Command. Deputy 25 took the operations. Engine 25-1 dropped a supply line at Route 52 and West Creek Road and laid into the scene. The crew from Engine 25-1 pulled an 1 3/4" attack line and entered the front door of the Delta side occupancy. The crew encountered fire coming down the stairs and the stairs burned out approximately 3/4 of the way up. An initial attack was made from the bottom of the stairs and the crew pulled out to attempt to make the stairs on the Bravo side occupancy. The stairs on the Bravo side were passable and the line advanced to the second floor.

Meanwhile, the crew from Micu 25-2, Engine 24-6, and Ladder 25, laddered the building and attempted to enter the second floor on the Charlie side from a porch roof. The crew from Engine 25-1 operated on the second floor until low on air and then pulled back due to being low air and the stairs becoming unstable.

A second crew from Rescue 36 attempted to enter and made it to the second floor where they operated for a few minutes until they were pulled out due to the imminent collapse of the stairs.

Water supply was set up using a hydrant at the top of the hill at Route 52 and Brandyridge Drive. Crews from Engine 25-2, Engine 36, and Engine 51-2 did an excellent job maintaining water supply despite a burst section of LDH. A total of 2700 feet of supply line was laid.

As crews arrived they were cycled through operations on the first and second floors, pulling walls and ceilings to check for fire extension. Salt trucks were called to the scene due to extremely icy conditions. The fire was placed under control at 2338 and crews returned to service.

The LFC would like to thank all the mutual aid companies that came to assist both at the fire scene and with clean up.
