When an emergency happens, our fire apparatus and ambulances hit the streets within minutes. While you’ve probably seen our firefighters and EMS personnel who are the face of the Longwood Fire Company, you may not be aware of everything that goes on “behind the scenes.” We are in need of volunteers to help us run the non-emergency part of our operation. If you have ever thought about giving back to your community, there is no better way than to volunteer at your local fire company!
LFC responds to over 2,500 emergency calls every year. Be it billing forms from our ambulances or action reports from our fire officers, each of those calls has associated paperwork that must be entered into our system and filed. Add in purchasing, scheduling, and membership management and our office manager is very busy! Clerical volunteers assist the Office Manager with such things as purchasing, filing, and data entry and management.
As all buildings do, our firehouse needs maintenance. H & G volunteers donate their time and expertise on projects ranging from everyday, handyman-type tasks, to minor renovation, to planting our flower beds. If you like home improvement, this is for you.
PR volunteers are the voice of the Longwood Fire Company. They coordinate our community newsletter, write press releases for local media, and contribute content for our website. Can you help us get our message out?

Accounting and Financial Planning |
The Longwood Fire Company has an annual operating budget of over $2 million, and also holds a variety of professionally managed investments. We are looking for volunteers with financial experience to assist our Treasurer and Financial Secretary in overseeing our accounts.
We try to document as many of our fire calls, trainings, and activities as possible. If you have passion for cameras, LFC can use your talents. In addition to taking photos or video, we need volunteers to manage our image library.
So much of our operation is dependent on our hardware, software, and network functioning properly. We need volunteers with IT experience to set up new equipment, update our software, and everything in between!
LFC receives less than 15% of its annual operating budget from the townships it serves. The rest comes from ambulance billing, grants, and fundraising. We need volunteers to coordinate fundraising activities that will directly contribute to our operations. LFC is also in the preliminary planning stages to build a new firehouse. As this project progresses over the next few years, we need volunteers to assist with our capital campaign. Whether or not you have experience with non-profit fundraising, we need you!
As a reward to our hard working members, LFC organizes a number of social events over the course of the year. We’d love to have your help coordinating our annual banquet, picnic, trips to ballgames, or whatever you can think up.
Have a question or a way you think you can help us that doesn’t fit into one of the above areas? E-mail membership@longwoodfireco.com!
